Freeman Recovery Center accepts First Health Network insurance for dual diagnosis treatment, with coverage that can apply across detox, residential, PHP, IOP, and outpatient levels of care at our Dickson and Burns, Tennessee facilities. If you or someone in your family is dealing with co-occurring addiction and mental health conditions, your First Health benefits may cover a significant portion of the cost. Call (615) 645-3677 or verify your benefits online to find out exactly what your plan covers before taking the next step.

Does First Health Network Cover Dual Diagnosis Treatment in Tennessee?

First Health Network is a broad PPO-based network that provides behavioral health benefits to millions of plan members, and Freeman Recovery Center is recognized within that network for addiction and dual diagnosis treatment services in Tennessee. For most First Health members, that means your plan can cover medically necessary treatment for co-occurring substance use and mental health disorders, often including both inpatient and outpatient levels of care.

Coverage specifics depend on your individual plan, your employer’s benefit structure, and your current deductible and out-of-pocket status. That said, First Health plans are generally required under federal mental health parity laws to cover behavioral health services at the same level as medical benefits. This matters practically: if your plan covers hospitalization, it typically must also cover inpatient addiction and psychiatric treatment at comparable rates.

The most direct way to know what your plan will actually pay is to call FRC’s admissions team at (615) 645-3677. The team verifies First Health benefits confidentially, at no cost, and can usually give you a clear picture of coverage within the same day.

What Levels of Care Does First Health Cover at Freeman Recovery Center?

Freeman Recovery Center operates a full continuum of care, and First Health benefits can potentially apply across multiple levels depending on clinical necessity and your specific plan. Here is a breakdown of what FRC offers and how First Health coverage typically maps to each level.

Medical Detox

Medical Detox

Medical detox at FRC’s Burns, Tennessee campus provides 24/7 clinically supervised withdrawal management. For individuals dealing with alcohol, opioid, or benzodiazepine dependence alongside a co-occurring mental health condition, detox is often the medically necessary starting point. First Health plans commonly cover inpatient detox when clinical criteria are met, and FRC’s clinical team documents medical necessity in alignment with nationally recognized standards to support coverage approval.

Residential Treatment

Residential Treatment

Following detox, many dual diagnosis patients step into FRC’s residential program, also based in Burns, TN. Residential care includes structured daily programming, individual and group therapy, medication management, trauma-informed counseling, and psychiatric support for co-occurring conditions such as PTSD, depression, anxiety, and mood disorders. First Health benefits for residential care vary by plan, but pre-authorization is common, and FRC’s admissions team handles that process directly with your insurer.

Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)

Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)

PHP at FRC’s Dickson location provides intensive daytime clinical programming while patients live off-site, either at home or in one of FRC’s sober living homes. For dual diagnosis patients stepping down from residential care, or those who need structured treatment without full inpatient admission, PHP is frequently covered by First Health as a medically necessary level of care. FRC also offers PHP through its telehealth platform, Freeman Recovery Online, for members across Tennessee who cannot attend in person.

Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

IOP at Freeman Recovery Center is designed for working adults and those with family obligations, with evening scheduling available. It involves multiple hours of structured therapy per week, typically meeting several days per week, covering substance use and mental health treatment simultaneously. First Health’s behavioral health benefits frequently extend to IOP for co-occurring disorder treatment, and FRC can verify whether your specific plan includes this level prior to enrollment.

Standard Outpatient and Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT)

Standard Outpatient and Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT)

Ongoing outpatient care and Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) round out FRC’s continuum. MAT at Freeman Recovery Center integrates FDA-approved medications, including buprenorphine and naltrexone, with active counseling. First Health coverage for MAT and outpatient maintenance varies considerably by plan, and the admissions team can clarify what applies to your benefits.

What Dual Diagnosis Treatment Looks Like at Freeman Recovery Center

First Health coverage gets you through the door. What happens inside matters just as much. Freeman Recovery Center’s dual diagnosis approach addresses substance use and mental health conditions simultaneously, using evidence-based frameworks including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and trauma-informed counseling. For patients whose psychiatric symptoms require more intensive intervention, FRC’s affiliation with Freeman Health Partners, its sister organization, extends access to psychiatric evaluation, medication management, and Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) therapy offered through that separate clinical entity.

More than 50% of FRC’s clinical and support staff are personally in recovery, which shapes the way treatment is delivered. The approach is grounded in lived experience alongside clinical training. For dual diagnosis patients who have often felt dismissed in other treatment settings, this combination carries real weight.

FRC is accredited by The Joint Commission, licensed by the Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services, and registered with SAMHSA. These credentials are part of what enables First Health to recognize FRC as a covered provider for medically necessary behavioral health services.

How Much Will Dual Diagnosis Treatment Cost with First Health?

Out-of-pocket costs for dual diagnosis treatment with First Health insurance depend on several variables, including your deductible, co-insurance rate, out-of-pocket maximum, and whether FRC is currently in-network under your specific plan. A 30-day residential stay at Freeman Recovery Center runs approximately $18,000 before insurance, but what you actually pay can differ substantially depending on how your benefits are structured.

Key factors that affect your actual cost with First Health:

    • Deductible status. If you have already met your annual deductible, First Health’s co-insurance applies immediately. If not, initial costs apply toward your deductible before coverage begins.
    • Co-insurance and co-pay. Most behavioral health plans require a percentage co-payment or a fixed co-pay after the deductible is met. FRC’s team will explain what percentage applies under your plan.
    • Level of care. Detox and residential typically carry different cost structures than PHP or IOP. Benefits verification will itemize coverage by level.
    • Out-of-pocket maximum. Once you reach your plan’s out-of-pocket maximum, First Health covers 100% of additional covered services for the remainder of your benefit year.

Freeman Recovery Center’s admissions team will walk you through each of these figures before you commit to anything. The goal is to make sure you have a complete financial picture before treatment begins, with no surprises after admission.

For a broader overview of treatment costs and payment options, visit FRC’s cost resources or call the team directly at (615) 645-3677.

I love this place! I look forward to coming back Freeman Alumni I will forever be greatful for you giving me my life, family, sobriety, and marriage back! I came in and instantly wanted to leave I was scared and assumed how this place was based on looks then I made it to class and met the people and employees and fell in love! Like anywhere else its what you make of it. The EMDR therapy was phenomenal I was not a believer but it was one of the most helpful things I did I also enjoyed the Acupuncture. The only complaint I have is the staff that I loved are no longer there. Please reconsider bringing them back they helped me see the light!

This is my second review. It will be just wonderful as my first. My husband was here last year and they were wonderful. Unfortunately at no fault of anyone there he is now back. This second time they were just as wonderful. They got him a bed the first day he called them. When he arrived they all welcomed him again. No one ever wants to have their family member to have to go through addiction but thank God for people like Freeman who truly care and want nothing but the best. I look forward to watching my husband’s progress and being there every step of the way. Thank you Freeman for caring and not ever giving up.
