Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Treatment
Substance use disorder (SUD) rehabilitation uses a comprehensive approach aimed at helping people overcome dependence on drugs, alcohol, or both. SUD rehabilitation focuses on healing both the physical aspects of addiction and also the psychological and behavioral issues that contributed to developing the disorder. Rehabilitation typically begins with detoxification to safely manage withdrawal symptoms under medical supervision.
Following medical detox, rehabilitation continues using a variety of evidence-based and holistic therapeutic modalities that can include individual and group therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and motivational interviewing. The goal of therapy is to help you understand the root cause of addiction while developing coping strategies to deal with triggers and cravings. All of this helps to rebuild lives in a healthier and more constructive manner. SUD rehabilitation can take place using inpatient care or outpatient care, depending on the severity of the addiction and your personal circumstances.

Dual Diagnosis Treatment
Dual diagnosis is the description of an individual who has both a substance use disorder and co-occurring mental health condition. There’s an intricate relationship between these conditions which mandates that an integrated approach is used for treatment. They should be treated concurrently rather than in isolation using a combination of medication management, counseling, behavioral health therapies, and other interventions that are tailored to address your specific needs.
Your customized treatment approach will focus on the root cause of both your mental health condition and substance use disorder. Therapy will seek to understand how they interact, and treatment helps provide a more comprehensive and effective path to recovery. This improves your outcomes and reduces the risk of relapse. This holistic approach is crucial for those who are navigating the complexities of co-occurring disorders and offers hope for a more balanced future.

Programs at Freeman Recovery Center
Freeman Recovery Center provides every level of care from medical detox through standard outpatient, across two campuses about ten minutes apart. Detox and residential treatment take place at Burns, where a nurse is on site around the clock and a physician is on call. Day treatment, intensive outpatient and standard outpatient run out of Dickson. Call (615) 645-3677 for a free assessment and admissions will tell you which level fits.
-
Inpatient Rehabilitation
Residential treatment at Freeman Recovery Center takes place at the Burns campus, where clients stay for the full length of detox and residential care. A nurse is on site 24 hours a day with a physician on call, and days are structured around individual and group therapy, with medication management where it is needed.
Most people reach residential care through medical detox, though direct admission is possible depending on what the assessment finds. Staying on campus removes the daily triggers and pressures that make early recovery hard to hold onto at home.
-
Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)
Freeman Recovery Center runs its partial hospitalization program from the Dickson campus. PHP is the most intensive level of care that does not require staying in a treatment facility overnight, with programming during the day and structured therapy most of the week. It suits people stepping down from residential treatment at Burns, and people admitted directly after the assessment.
Most people in PHP stay in Freeman recovery housing rather than at home, and the daily van route runs between housing and the Dickson clinic. Care includes individual, group and family counseling, with medication management where it is part of the plan.
-
Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)
Intensive outpatient at Freeman Recovery Center is a step down from PHP, with fewer hours each week and more room for work or school. Sessions run from the Dickson campus, where outpatient hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., including evening options for people who cannot attend during the day.
Most people in IOP stay in Freeman recovery housing, with van transportation to and from the clinic. Programming includes individual, group and family therapy, and the structure exists so you practice what you learn in the settings you actually live in.
-
Medical Detox
Medical detox at Freeman Recovery Center takes place at the Burns campus. A nurse is on site 24 hours a day with a physician on call, so withdrawal is monitored continuously rather than checked on periodically. Clients stay at Burns through detox and, when it is part of the plan, directly into residential treatment.
Detox is where most people start, though not everyone needs it. The free assessment determines whether you do, and admissions can complete it over the phone at (615) 645-3677.
-
Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT)
Medication-assisted treatment combines FDA-approved medication with counseling and behavioral therapy, most often for opioid and alcohol use disorders. The medication reduces cravings and eases withdrawal so the therapeutic work has a chance to hold, and it runs alongside the rest of your treatment rather than in place of it.
At Freeman Recovery Center, MAT is available across levels of care and is included when the clinical team determines it fits. It is not required and it is not offered on its own.
-
CBT, DBT, and Holistic Therapy Programs
Therapy at Freeman Recovery Center is delivered individually and in groups across every level of care. Cognitive behavioral therapy works on the thought patterns and behaviors that keep substance use going, and on building specific coping strategies for triggers and cravings.
Dialectical behavior therapy adds skills in emotional regulation, distress tolerance and managing relationships, which matters when substance use is tied to how someone handles stress. Holistic programming, including practices such as nutritional counseling and meditation, runs alongside the clinical work rather than replacing it.

I love this place! I look forward to coming back Freeman Alumni I will forever be greatful for you giving me my life, family, sobriety, and marriage back! I came in and instantly wanted to leave I was scared and assumed how this place was based on looks then I made it to class and met the people and employees and fell in love! Like anywhere else its what you make of it. The EMDR therapy was phenomenal I was not a believer but it was one of the most helpful things I did I also enjoyed the Acupuncture. The only complaint I have is the staff that I loved are no longer there. Please reconsider bringing them back they helped me see the light!Posted on Google

This is my second review. It will be just wonderful as my first. My husband was here last year and they were wonderful. Unfortunately at no fault of anyone there he is now back. This second time they were just as wonderful. They got him a bed the first day he called them. When he arrived they all welcomed him again. No one ever wants to have their family member to have to go through addiction but thank God for people like Freeman who truly care and want nothing but the best. I look forward to watching my husband’s progress and being there every step of the way. Thank you Freeman for caring and not ever giving up.

Freeman Recovery Center Accepts Most Major Insurance Providers

Call us to begin recovery with confidence at one of Tennessee’s trusted addiction treatment centers.
Most rehab centers in Tennessee take health insurance. Freeman Recovery Center works with many insurance providers to ensure you have access to treatment. There are two federal laws that protect your right to receive benefits for mental health and substance use disorder treatment. The first is the 2008 Mental health Parity and Addiction Equity Act, which prevents insurance providers from limiting benefits for mental health or substance use disorders below what is offered for medical and surgical benefits.
The second is the 2010 Affordable Care Act, which mandates that insurance providers must offer coverage levels for mental health and substance use disorder services. However, the level of service offered through your insurance policy is dictated by your benefits and limitations. For more information about what your policy covers and to verify your insurance coverage, we encourage you to call Freeman Recovery Center to speak with one of our admission team members. They can answer your questions about treatment and schedule a complimentary substance abuse assessment when requested.
Most major health plans include benefits for mental health and substance use disorder services, helping people access rehab in Tennessee. While federal law requires parity, each insurer sets its own coverage rules and exclusions. Our rehab facilities in TN guide families through what’s covered and what costs may apply.
Plan designs differ widely. Some policies pair higher monthly premiums with lower deductibles and richer benefits, while lower premium options may include higher out-of-pocket costs or narrower networks. We explain how these differences affect Tennessee addiction treatment and rehabilitation, including prior authorization requirements, copays, coinsurance, and authorized days for various levels of care.
In Tennessee, plans from Aetna Health, Carelon, Blue Cross Blue Shield, UnitedHealthcare, Cigna, Humana, Optum, and others may offer coverage for substance use disorder treatment. Our Tennessee recovery center can verify your specific benefits, confirm network status, and outline next steps so you understand coverage before starting care.
The cost of rehab in Tennessee without health insurance depends on several factors, including the location of the facility, the intensity of your treatment plan, the length of your treatment plan, and financial assistance that you may obtain. For example, a treatment center located in a rural area is typically less expensive than one located in a large urban area like New York City or Chicago.
The length of your treatment and the number of treatment sessions you receive also factor into the final cost. When you call Freeman Recovery Center at (615) 645-3677 or contact us online, our admission counselors can estimate your out-of-pocket costs and suggest several ways of obtaining financial assistance. For example, if you don’t qualify for private insurance, you may qualify for a government-sponsored program, such as Medicaid or Medicare. Other opportunities for financial assistance include community-based or faith-based grants and scholarships, personal loans, Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs), or friends and family. While it is challenging to look for financial assistance and ask for help, the cost to your finances, personal relationships, and employment are far greater without treatment.
