Does First Health Network Cover Opioid Rehab in Tennessee?

First Health Network is a managed care organization that provides access to a broad provider network for behavioral health and substance use disorder services. For people dealing with opioid addiction, the critical question is not just whether First Health Network covers rehab in general, but whether it covers the specific levels of care needed at a facility that is actually equipped to treat opioid use disorder.

Freeman Recovery Center is an accepted First Health Network provider. That means your benefits can apply toward opioid-specific services at FRC, including detox, residential treatment, PHP, IOP, MAT, and outpatient care. Coverage amounts depend on your individual plan, deductible status, and whether prior authorization is required, which is why verifying benefits before admission matters so much.

Levels of Opioid Treatment at Freeman Recovery Center

The depth of opioid addiction treatment required varies by person. Someone actively withdrawing from high-dose opioids or fentanyl requires a different starting point than someone seeking structured support after a recent relapse. FRC’s full continuum means First Health Network members can access the right entry point without switching facilities as their needs change.

Medically Monitored Detox for Opioids

Medically Monitored Detox for Opioids

Opioid withdrawal can be intensely uncomfortable and medically complex, particularly for individuals with co-occurring health conditions or polysubstance dependence. Without clinical support, discomfort and medical risk are among the most common reasons people return to use before completing treatment. FRC’s medically monitored detox program at our Burns, TN campus provides 24/7 clinical supervision, comfort-focused withdrawal management, and MAT where clinically indicated. This is the highest medical intensity level in FRC’s continuum, and it sets the foundation for the treatment that follows.

Residential Opioid Treatment

Residential Opioid Treatment

After detox, residential treatment at our Burns campus provides structured, immersive care away from the triggers and environments associated with active use. Daily programming includes individual therapy, group sessions, evidence-based modalities such as CBT and DBT, trauma-informed counseling, and 12-step or non-12-step tracks depending on the patient’s preference. Residential treatment at FRC can range from one week to six months based on clinical need and what First Health Network authorizes.

PHP and IOP for Opioid Recovery

PHP and IOP for Opioid Recovery

For patients who have completed residential care or who are clinically stable enough to begin outpatient-level treatment, Freeman Recovery Center’s Dickson campus offers PHP and IOP programming Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 9 PM. Evening IOP scheduling is specifically available for working adults, parents, and those with family or school commitments.

FRC also offers sober living housing for patients in PHP or IOP who need stable, drug-free housing during their outpatient phase. This removes one of the most common barriers to completing outpatient care.

MAT for Opioid Use Disorder

MAT for Opioid Use Disorder

Medication-Assisted Treatment is a clinically supported approach for opioid use disorder, combining FDA-approved medications with counseling and behavioral therapy. FRC administers MAT across levels of care and through our sister organization, Freeman Health Partners. Medications available include buprenorphine, naltrexone, Suboxone, and methadone, among others. If your First Health Network plan includes MAT benefits, FRC can integrate medication management into your treatment from day one.

How to Verify Your First Health Network Benefits for Opioid Rehab

The benefits verification process at Freeman Recovery Center is free, confidential, and handled entirely by our admissions team. You do not need to navigate First Health Network’s member portal or call an insurance hotline on your own.

Here is how the process works:

    1. Contact our admissions team by calling (615) 645-3677 or submitting your information online.
    2. Provide your First Health Network member ID and basic contact information. A brief description of the level of care you are interested in helps our team ask the right questions.
    3. Our team contacts First Health Network directly to confirm active coverage, check in-network status, identify any prior authorization requirements, and determine what your plan covers for each level of opioid treatment.
    4. We report back to you with a clear picture of what is covered, what your estimated out-of-pocket responsibility looks like, and which levels of care your plan will authorize.

Same-day admissions are available. In many cases, we can complete a benefits check and begin the intake process on the same call.

What Affects Your Out-of-Pocket Cost With First Health Network

Even with solid behavioral health benefits, most First Health Network plans involve some cost-sharing. Understanding the key variables helps set realistic expectations before admission:

    • Deductible status: If your annual deductible has not been met, you may owe a portion of costs before insurance pays its share.
    • Copay and coinsurance: After the deductible is met, most plans require either a flat copay or a percentage of costs (coinsurance) per visit or per day of treatment.
    • In-network vs. out-of-network: Staying in-network with a First Health Network provider like Freeman Recovery Center significantly reduces cost exposure compared to out-of-network care.
    • Prior authorization: Many First Health Network plans require pre-approval for residential or PHP levels of care. FRC’s admissions team handles this process.
    • Length of stay: Longer programs involve more authorization steps and may require concurrent review, meaning periodic re-authorization during treatment.

If out-of-pocket costs are a concern, ask our admissions team about available financial assistance options. Freeman Health Partners, FRC’s sister organization, operates on a sliding-scale payment model, and FRC works to ensure cost does not prevent access to necessary care.
